KISSIMMEE, Fla. — After both Wittenberg and Marietta were rained out on Thursday, along with the rest of the teams at the Rebel Spring Games, both agreed to add a game against each other to the schedule. The Tigers dropped the rematch 14-0 in five innings, falling to 2-9 on the season.
The Pioneers scored four runs in the top of the first to set the pace for their offense. After a scoreless second, they scored one, two and seven in the ensuing frames.
Freshman Caitlin Gowins (Coshocton, Ohio/River View) started and took the loss in 4-2/3 innings, fanning three and allowing only five hits. Marietta capitalized on five Tiger errors to score four of their seven runs off Gowins unearned. Junior Anna Kvartunas (Springfield, Va./Paul VI Catholic) relieved and allowed seven runs.
Senior Jessi Allen (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) went 2-for-2 at the plate for Wittenberg, while four teammates hit once. They included junior Tori Amicon (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby), freshman Kaitie Harrison (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge), junior Brooklyn Cox (Dayton, Ohio/Vandalia Butler) and junior Fallon White (Fairborn, Ohio/Northmont).
The Tigers, who boarded a bus back to Springfield following the game, get their home schedule started with a doubleheader versus Malone on Friday, March 18, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Betty Doughman Dillahunt Field.
