The Tigers certainly don't duck quality non-conference competition, and last week they hung tough against one of the best in the nation, the sixth-ranked Capital Crusaders. By the end of Wednesday's game, however, Wittenberg finally succombed to the Ohio Athletic Conference favorite 63-57.
Coming off a win the previous week over 10th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace, the Tigers were undone by poor shooting, particularly in the first half (4-of-28). Still, solid defense and scrappy play kept the teams deadlocked at halftime and set the stage for a hard-fought second half. Capital slowly pulled away, hitting 20-of-26 free throws in the second half.
Junior guard/forward Kate Rolf (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll) led all players with 18 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Stephanie Campbell (Springfield, Ohio/Southeastern) added 17 points. Junior forward Tiffany Keller (Massillon, Ohio/Tuslaw) chipped in with nine points off the bench, while sophomore forward Geri Woessner (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) played 34 strong minutes off the bench, contributing six points and a game-high nine rebounds.
