Senior Night Win Over Oberlin Propels Tigers Toward Playoffs
Three Wittenberg women's basketball seniors have played their final regular season home game as a Tiger. And although not all three had a great night against the Yeowomen, it cannot match the tremendous effect the trio has had on the program. A 68-52 win over Oberlin capped off the regularly-scheduled portion of the season to move to 13-10 overall and 12-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Three Wittenberg women's basketball seniors have played their final regular season home game as a Tiger. And although not all three had a great night against the Yeowomen, it cannot match the tremendous effect the trio has had on the program. A 68-52 win over Oberlin capped off the regularly-scheduled portion of the season to move to 13-10 overall and 12-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).
The Tigers won today on the combined strength of the team, including standout performances from senior Katie Gregorevich (Northfield, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and sophomores Stephanie Boardman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) and Carrie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley). Gregorevich led with 17 points and 10 rebounds to register her third double-double of the season while Boardman finished with 16 and Dyer with 15. Boardman tacked on six rebounds to take second in that team category.
After Oberlin scored the first basket, Wittenberg began building the momentum which would carry them out to a 33-18 halftime lead. After starting the second half strong, the Tigers got a bit loose but did not allow Oberlin to get within 12 the rest of the game.
For the seniors, they conclude their fourth regular season, in which they helped the Tigers to a 64-39 overall record, including a sizzling 49-15 NCAC record, which earned them four conference tournament appearances.
Senior Ali Rohlfs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) added two points and three rebounds while Ellie Stonecash (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown Fenwick)contributed six points and three rebounds on 4-of-6 free throw shooting. As a team, the Tigers dominated the boards, pulling in 43 while holding Oberlin to 32.
