Slow Start Buries Tigers Against Kenyon

After falling behind 8-0 to start the game and then allowing a back-breaking 18-0 run near the end of the first half, the Wittenberg Tigers found the mountain too difficult to scale in a 74-51 setback at Kenyon.p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25.

GAMBIER, Ohio — After falling behind 8-0 to start the game and then allowing a back-breaking 18-0 run near the end of the first half, the Wittenberg Tigers found the mountain too difficult to scale in a 74-51 setback at Kenyon.

The loss dropped the Tigers back to .500, both overall at 7-7 and in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) at 3-3. The Ladies completed the season sweep of Wittenberg to improve to 13-4 overall and 6-2 in the NCAC.

The two teams played to a hard-fought 66-62 decision last month, but Kenyon was red-hot offensively in the re-match. The Ladies shot 60 percent from the floor in the first half, including a torried 8-of-14 performance from three-point range, in opening up a 46-22 halftime lead.

Wittenberg bounced back to start the second half, closing the gap 50-34 on a three-pointer by senior Lyndsey Clark (New Carlisle, Ohio/Tecumseh) at the 13:14 mark. But Kenyon found its shooting stroke again, and the Tigers would get no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

The Tigers were paced by junior Kim Replogle (Houston, Ohio/Houston) with 16 points and five rebounds in 19 outstanding minutes off the bench. Freshman Katelyn Haralamos (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) added 10 points and four rebounds for the Tigers, who shot 35 percent from the field in the game.

Another long road trip awaits on Saturday as the Tigers head to Wooster for a 2 p.m. tip-off. Wittenberg's next home game is a date opposite nationally ranked DePauw at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25.
