Tigers Shuffle Line-Up, Secure Key NCAC Win At Allegheny
Taylore Bundy and Heather Schroeder posted career-high points totals as Wittenberg bounced back to beat the Gators 57-46.
MEADVILLE, Pa. – Less than 24 hours after one of the most disappointing results of the 2012-13 season, the Wittenberg Tigers showed tremendous resolve in a 57-46 win over Allegheny.
The Tigers had lost three of their previous four games, culminating in a three-point defeat at Hiram on Friday, the first time the Terriers had ever beaten Wittenberg. Head Coach Sarah Jurewicz shuffled the line-up, and the move paid off as three starters scored in double figures as 11 different players saw double-figure minutes in the game.
The win moved Wittenberg back into a three-way tie for fourth place in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) standings with four games to play. The Tigers stand 10-11 overall and 6-6 in the conference, two games behind Kenyon and Denison for second place in the standings.
Sophomore Enri Small (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) led the way with 22 points, while also contributing six rebounds, two assists, two steals and three blocked shots in 23 outstanding minutes. She was joined in double figures offensively by sophomore Heather Schroeder (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) and freshman Taylore Bundy (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange), both of whom finished with a career-high 12 points.
Bundy added a collegiate-best seven rebounds in her first career starting assignment, as she shared game honors in that category by sophomore Katelyn Haralamos (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) and sophomore Karen Daniel-Hamberg (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview). As a team, Wittenberg pulled down 12 more rebounds in the game.
Wittenberg held a 28-21 advantage at halftime, and the Gators were unable to pull any closer than six points the rest of the way. After Allegheny pulled to within 43-37 with 8:08 remaining in the second half, the Tigers went on an eight-point run to re-take control.
