WOOSTER, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's basketball team was cranking on all cylinders during an 84-51 win over the College of Wooster on Saturday, improving to 13-9 overall and 8-6 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).
Thirteen players scored for the Tigers, including five who posted double-figure totals, on a night in which they simply could not miss. That hyperbolic expression was nearly true in a literal sense for sophomore Taylore Bundy (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange), who hit four of her five attempted field goals and all three attempted three-pointers to finish with 11 points.
As a team, Wittenberg shot 30-for-57 from the floor (52.6 percent) and 12-of-24 (50 percent) from three-point range. Freshman Riley McDonald (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) and senior Amber Rice (South Charleston, Ohio/Southeastern) split the team-lead with 12 points each on a pair of high-efficiency efforts.
McDonald hit 5-of-7 field goal attempts and 2-of-3 three-pointers while providing three assists, while Rice posted six assists and four steals alongside 4-of-7 three-point shooting. She only attempted one shot inside the arc.
Off the bench, junior Darbie Zirkle (St. Paris, Ohio/Graham) converted 5-of-6 free throw attempts on her way to 10 points, and junior Enri Small (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) provided an impressive 11 points in nine minutes, hitting 4-of-8 field goal attempts and 3-of-5 free throws.
The Tigers led the Fighting Scots nearly wire-to-wire. After the Scots made the game's first field goal, the Tigers answered with the first of McDonald's three-pointers to take a lead they would never relinquish. By the end of the first half the Tigers led 41-18.
Freshman Michelle Brunswick (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) provided seven points off the bench while junior Katelyn Haralamos (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) matched from among the starting five.
Wittenberg plays its regular season road finale on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Kenyon at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers were 61-47 winners in their last meeting with the Ladies in Pam Evans Smith Arena on Jan. 22.
