Three Women's Basketball Players Earn All-NCAC Honors
Cleveland, OH-Three women's basketball players were named as parts of All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) teams for this past season.
Senior forward Riane Burton (Houston, TX / Cypress Ranch) earned second team recogniztion, while senior guard Jazmyn Gaines-Burns (Bladensburg, MD / Elizabeth Seton) and Karsen Karlblom (Crystal Lake, IL / Prairie Ridge) earned third team honors. Gaines-Burns' selection is her third straight All-NCAC selection, earning first team honors the past two seasons and it is Burton's second All-NCAC selection after being named to the first team last season.
This season, Burton led the team in points per game with 13 and rebounds per game with 7.5. Throught the season, she was able to log three total double-doubles throughout the season and had the highest mark for points in a single game on the team this season, scoring 26 against Cal Lutheran. Karlblom was second on the team in points per game with 11.6 and second in rebounds per game as well with 4.7. Karlblom also added herself to the Wittenberg record books by shooting 49.3% from three-point range this season. Gaines-Burns finished thrid on the team in points per game, averaging 9.8, and was fourth on the team in total assists and steals on the season.
The Tigers ended the regular season in a three-way tie for third place in the conference. In the NCAC tournament, they defeated Oberlin in the quarterfinals, 60-42, then won a close game against the NCAC #1 seed, Ohio Wesleyan, 56-54, befor elosing a close game to DePauw in the conference championship, 46-44. The Tigers closed out the season with an overall record of 18-10.
