GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers got the chance to measure themselves against some of the best NCAA Division III teams in the nation at the DePauw Small College Classic. While they may not be able to hang with the top teams yet, the Tigers did make some gains over the weekend.
Wittenberg placed 11th in the 13-team competition, thanks in large part to a first-day 354, which bettered the school record round for a second straight week. The Tigers dropped 20 strokes on Day 2 to finish with a 728 for the tournament.
Junior Jennifer Petro (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) carded a first-round 84 and wound up 28th with a 173. She was pushed by teammate Anna Bencriscutto (Oro Valley, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge), a freshman who matched the first-round 84 and wound up 37th with a collegiate-best 176.
All five Wittenberg players in the starting lineup broke 100 for the first time in school history. Sophomore Kimberleigh McClure (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) finished 53rd with a 188, sophomore Amanda Delagrange (Akron, Ohio/Firestone) placed 162nd with a 192 and freshman Sara Mewhort (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) rounded things out with a 194, good for 64th.
