SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers put together a solid Round 2 to improve by 20 strokes and place fourth in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Preview at Windy Knoll Golf Club.
The NCAC Preview brought the four conference schools (Hiram, Wittenberg, Allegheny and Denison) that currently sponsor women's golf together for the first time. They will be joined by Wooster and Ohio Wesleyan for the 2010-11 school year, and the NCAC has made women's golf its 23rd championship sport.
Allegheny, ranked in the top 20 nationally, won the tournament with a two-day total of 674. The Gators were very consistent, following up a 338 on Day 1 with a 336. Impressively, all five Allegheny players scored 87 or better on Saturday, despite the cold temperatures and high winds that made life so difficult for many others in the field.
Several among the nine Wittenberg players in the field were adversely affected. On the flip side, sophomore Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) carded an 83 on Day 1 and followed that with an 85 to finished in a fifth-place tie at 168 overall.
The next Wittenberg finisher was freshman Jenna Lisic (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville), who posted scores of 91 and 90 to finish 20th with a 181. Right behind her was sophomore Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) in 21st with a 182, followed by sophomore Carrie Frey (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) with a 189, good for 27th.
The Tigers put the wraps on the 2009-10 season with the Wittenberg Spring Invitational on Tuesday, April 20. It will also be played at Windy Knoll.
