Tigers Continue To Show Improvement With Solid Finish At DePauw

DANVILLE, Ind. — The Wittenberg Tigers may not have captured a victory at the Katman Klassic, hosted by DePauw, but they did continue to make significant improvement, posted back-to-back 337s for a two-day total of 674 to finish fifth.
All four teams that finished ahead of Wittenberg in the event are currently ranked among the top 25 nationally. DePauw won the tournament with a 638, two strokes better than Illinois Wesleyan and six ahead of Olivet. Franklin was the other team to defeat the Tigers, finishing with a 659.
Sophomore Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) led the way with a 160, good for a tie for sixth place. She was easily the most consistent of the Wittenberg players as she followed up a 79 with a second-day 81.
The team's top scorer on Day 1 was freshman Meghann Greene (North Royalton, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) with a 78. She added a 90 on Day 2 to place 20th with a score of 168. Sophomore Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) matched Busam's 81 on Day 2 to go along with an 88 on opening day to take 21st with a 169.
The Tigers will spend the next two weeks on their home course, Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield. First, Wittenberg hosts the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Preview Tournament, which will serve as a warm-up for the first-ever NCAC Championship in 2011. The conference recently added women's golf as its 23rd championship sport.
After that tournament April 17-18, the Tigers will host the Wittenberg Spring Invitational on Tuesday, April 20, also at Windy Knoll. Then both the men's and women's teams will host the third annual Alumni, Family & Friends Fundraising Golf Outing on Saturday, April 24.
