PERRY PARK, Ky. — Normally, heading south to Kentucky for a late March weekend invitational at Perry Park Golf Resort would insure favorable weather. Such was not the case this weekend, as the Wittenberg women's golf team finished 17th in 40 degree temperatures at the Northern Kentucky Spring Invitational.
The Tigers were one of just a handful of NCAA Division III teams to compete in the tournament, hosted by Division II Northern Kentucky. Future North Coast Athletic Conference rival DePauw University won the event.
Wittenberg turned in scores of 340 and 353 to finish the weekend with a score of 693.
Junior Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) paced the Tigers with 171 on rounds of 82 and 89, finishing tied for 63rd. Junior Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) followed with rounds of 84 and 90 on her way to a tie for 78th, finishing with a final score of 174.
Freshman Mary Eighmy (Erie, Pa./McDowell) was just one stroke back in a tie for 82nd, and Deanna Mychalishyn (Mason, Ohio/Mason) was only one more back in a tie for 88th. Freshman Jenna Gentner (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) carded a 184 to finish tied for 107th.
The Tigers are next scheduled to compete in DePauw University's Katman Klassic at Twin Bridges Golf Club in Danville, Ky., on Friday, April 9 and Saturday, April 10.
