Tigers Place Third At DePauw Small College Classic
The Wittenberg Tigers proved again that they can compete well against some of the top teams in the nation with a third-place finish in the DePauw Small College Classic.
CLAYTON, Ind. — The Wittenberg Tigers, ranked 21st in the nation by GolfStat, proved again that they can compete well against some of the top teams in the nation with a third-place finish in the DePauw Small College Classic.
The Tigers finished behind the host team, a future North Coast Athletic Conference rival currently ranked in the top 10 based solely on head-to-head match-ups, and 14 strokes behind second-place North Central, which stands 16th. Wittenberg's two-day total of 662 was 16 strokes better than 29th-ranked Franklin and 18 strokes ahead of 18th-ranked Hanover, which rounded out the top five.
Junior Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) led the Tigers with rounds of 81 and 79 for a seventh-place tie individually. Junior Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) followed up her career-best 79 on Day 1 with an 86 for a total of 165, good for an 11th-place tie. That two-day total was matched by freshmanDeanna Mychalishyn (Mason, Ohio/Mason), who carded rounds of 85 and 80.
Rounding out the Tigers' team finishes were freshmen Maggie Prokop (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) with a 173, good for 26th, and Mary Eighmy (Erie, Pa./McDowell)with a 174, putting her 28th. Freshman Jenna Gentner (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) competed as an individual in the event, and she turned in a 173 to tie Prokop in 26th place.
