Top-Ranked Tigers Open Second Half Of Season With Another Win
Wittenberg pulls away for fifth title of 2015-16 season as Macy Hubbard claims medalist honors at TaylorMade-Adidas Intercollegiate.
DATAW ISLAND, SC - The Wittenberg Tigers opened the second half of the 2015-16 season with the same kind of result that became customary in the first half with a 17-stroke victory at the TaylorMade-Adidas Intercollegiate.
The Tigers carded rounds of 317 and 310 on the 5900-yard, par-72 Morgan River Course on Dataw Island, SC. That was good for a score of 51-over-par 627, comfortably ahead of Bridgewater at 644 and Washington & Lee at 666.
The win was the fifth in six tournaments for the Tigers in 2015-16. Wittenberg heads into the final two months of the campaign ranked No. 1 in scoring average by GolfStat.
Wittenberg players carded the top two scores in the tournament as junior Macy Hubbard (Mason, Ohio/Mason) earned medalist honors after rounds of 73 and 71 left her with an even-par score of 144. That mark was one shot better than sophomore Jane Hopkinson-Wood (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School), who posted scores of 74 and 71 to place second in the 45-player field.
Next up for Wittenberg was a surprise finisher as sophomore Brianna Yee (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) placed seventh with a two-round total of 163, including a personal collegiate-best opening round of 79. Yee was entered in the field as an individual, so her scores did not count toward the Tigers' team totals.
Freshman Chloe Bradburn (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy) and senior Maggie Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) were next for the Tigers with matching two-round scores of 171 to tie for 14th place. Senior Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown) was right behind in 16th with a 173, and freshman Devon Atchison (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) rounded things out for the Tigers in 30th place with a 191.
