Bio

Wittenberg University Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Agler '80 welcomed David Wetterich back to his alma mater to serve as the head coach of the men's and women's golf programs prior to the 2022-23 season.

In his first season leading the program (2022-23), Wetterich guided the Tiger men to the NCAC title and a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Tournament, with Matthew Mattioli and J.F. Aber earning All-America honors. The Tigers followed with another NCAA appearance and 15th-place national finish in 2023-24 as Aber repeated as NCAC Player of the Year. In 2024-25, Wittenberg reclaimed the NCAC championship and finished 16th nationally, highlighted by Mitch Bolte earning NCAC Newcomer of the Year honors. The Tigers narrowly missed another national berth in 2025-26, while Mikey Schutte advanced as an individual competitor.

On the women’s side, Wetterich led the Tigers to conference finishes of third, fifth, third, and fourth from 2022-26, with multiple players earning All-NCAC and postseason honors each season.

After graduating from Wittenberg University in 2014 with a degree in marketing and a minor in sports management, Wetterich competed professionally on PGA Tour Canada and other mini-tours while also working as a caddie at Calusa Pines Golf Club in Florida. From 2019-22, he served as host and tournament coordinator for the Clovernook Open in Cincinnati.

As a student-athlete at Wittenberg, Wetterich helped the Tigers win four straight NCAC championships and earned second-team All-America honors in 2012 after finishing among the top 15 at the NCAA Division III Tournament.
