GAMBIER, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers scored enough goals to win most women's lacrosse games, but unfortunately the Kenyon Ladies scorched the nets in a 19-12 victory.
The loss dropped Wittenberg to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Kenyon improved to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC.
Offense wasn't a problem for the Tigers, who battled to a 7-7 tie through halftime. Junior Melissa Jackson put the Tigers ahead briefly, scoring the first of her four second-half goals just 10 seconds after the whistle blew to open the second half. Her scoring total was matched by sophomore Amber Cupples, who scored all four of her goals in the first half. Freshman Lizzie Amorello added two goals and junior Kari Thomas finished with one goal and two assists.
Kenyon was even more efficient at the other end of the field, however, as the Ladies scored 19 goals on just 28 total shots. The Tigers actually took one more shot in the game, and they held an advantage in every team statistical category except saves. Kenyon had 11 to Wittenberg's six.
