Women's Lacrosse Gets Back on Track with 12-10 Win over Oberlin
Wittenberg managed to explode for ten goals in the second half, as senior Olivia Lash netted five for the Tigers.
OBERLIN, Ohio—Wittenberg women's lacrosse slammed the brakes on their losing-streak in NCAC play Wednesday night, as the Tigers went in to Oberlin and dropped the Yeowomen 12-10. The Tigers had five different players find the back of the net in a game that was only 3-2 in favor of Oberlin at halftime. Senior Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) shined bright for Wittenberg in the win, scoring five goals. Despite scoring just two goals in the opening 30 minutes, Wittenberg exploded for a 10 goal onslaught in the second half, scoring five unanswered to start the half. The win puts the Tigers back even in NCAC play at 2-2, with an overall mark of 8-3 in 2016.
GAME BREAKDOWN
- Lash got things going for Wittenberg, as the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes of action.
- Oberlin would answer the bell early, scoring three unanswered goals in the next five minutes, before both offenses went cold to end the half, as half-time came around after 15 minutes of scoreless action.
- 30 seconds in to the second half, Wittenberg tied things up on an unassisted snipe from freshman Emily Wadds (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming), knotting things up at 3-3.
- The next three goals would be scored by fellow freshman Breanna Donnelly (Pickerington, Ohio/North), as Haley Schroeder (Granville, Ohio/Granville), Becca Joseph (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) and Wadds would all record assists.
- With 23:14 remaining in regulation, Oberlin closed the gap at 7-6 before Joseph and Lash both took advantage of a penalty, netting a goal apiece while up a player to push the lead to 9-6.
- In less than a minute's time with under five-minutes remaining in the game, Oberlin netted three straight goals to get within two at 11-9, but Schroder's late goal pushed the Tiger lead up to 12-9.

- Katie Reuter (Cleveland, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) was a rock in net for the Tigers, recording 11 saves in her 60 minutes in goal.
- Wittenberg's slow start included 13 turnovers in the first half, but the Tigers were able to regroup at half-time and force Oberlin into nine turnovers in the second half.
- For the game, Wittenberg got to the net at will, getting off 34 shots to Oberlin's 26.
