Otterbein Deals Wittenberg 17-6 Loss in Women’s Lacrosse
WESTERVILLE, OH. – A first-half onslaught of scoring was too much for Wittenberg's Women's Lacrosse to overcome on the road at Otterbein as the Tigers were defeated 17-6, in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, March 4, at Memorial Stadium.
Otterbein put five on the board in the first and six in the second to take an 11-4 lead with them to the sidelines at the half. The Tigers scored two times in each of the first, second, and fourth periods, but couldn't stop the Cardinals.
Wittenberg again had a balanced attack offensively with four different players scoring. Senior Maren Raymond(Louisville, KY / Ballard) struck for two goals, both coming in the first half. Elise Jantzen (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) also scored two, both of hers coming in the final minutes of the fourth period. Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) and Aubrey Stager (Saline, MI / Saline) landed the other two goals.
Meet led the team in shots with five total and one on goal. Stager had two shots, two on goal, an assist, and two draw controls. Jarya Hassell (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook) had two shots, both on goal and an assist. Raymond had two shots, both on goal and Jantzen had three shots, three on goal.
Alyssa Burnside (Hilliard, OH / Bradley) and Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) led the team in ground balls with four each. Wyse also had three caused turnovers.
Goalkeeper Makenna Ricketts (Chardon, OH / Chardon) tallied six saves on the night and freshman Victoria Wilson(Indianapolis, IN / Warren Central) added another in her first match of the season.
With the loss, Wittenberg goes to 0-4 on the season, while Otterbein improves to 2-2 overall, capturing its second win in a row this young season.
