Sewanee Remains Undefeated, Downing Wittenberg, 18-4, in Women’s Lacrosse Action
SEWANEE, TN – Wittenberg Women's Lacrosse took on a tough Sewanee team on its spring break trip at Puett Field in Tennessee. Scoring in double digits in all of their matches thus far, the Tigers from the south tallied an 18-4 victory over Witt on Wednesday, March 11.
Sewanee opened the first quarter with a barrage of goals, putting eight on the board and never looking back. The Tigers added five more in the second to go up 13-1 at the half. Wittenberg's lone first-half free-position goal came off the stick of Jarya Hassell (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook) during a man-up situation to make it 11-1 with 5:34 remaining in the half. It was her ninth goal of the season and 20th in her career at Witt.
Scoring slowed for Sewanee in the second half as Wittenberg held it to two in the third and three in the fourth while scoring a goal of its own in the third and two more with less than two minutes remaining in the match.
Alyssa Burnside (Hilliard, OH / Bradley), Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) and Aubrey Stager (Saline, MI / Saline) scored Wittenberg's second-half goals. Stager led the team in shots with five, four on goal. Stager also had a team-high five draw controls, and Ebony Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with four each. Goalkeeper Makenna Ricketts (Chardon, OH / Chardon) tallied three saves.
With the loss, Wittenberg goes to 0-6 on the season, while Sewanee stays undefeated at 7-0 overall.
