Tigers Top Trine, 9-6, for Second Straight Victory
ANGOLA, IN – Wittenberg Women's Lacrosse earned a 9-6 road win over Trine University on Saturday afternoon, March 21, using a strong second quarter to build a lead they would not relinquish. It was the second win in a row for the Tigers.
Wittenberg opened the game with a tightly contested first quarter before pulling away in the second, outscoring Trine 5-2 to take control. The Tigers carried that momentum into halftime and maintained their advantage throughout the second half, holding off a late push from the Thunder to secure the win.
Aubrey Stager (Saline, MI / Saline) led the offensive effort with three goals and one assist, pacing a balanced Tiger attack. Jarya Hassell (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook) and Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) each added two goals and two assists, contributing significantly to Wittenberg's nine-goal output. Alyssa Burnside (Hilliard, OH / Bradley) also found the back of the net and added two assists.
Defensively, Wittenberg limited Trine's scoring opportunities, allowing just five shots on goal. Makenna Ricketts(Chardon, OH / Chardon) recorded two saves in goal, while the Tiger defense forced 28 turnovers and collected 21 ground balls. Maggie Pickrel (Centerville, OH / Centerville) and Maren Raymond (Louisville, KY / Ballard) each contributed three ground balls to anchor the defensive effort.
The Tigers also held a slight edge in draw controls (9–8) and capitalized on Trine miscues, turning defensive stops into scoring opportunities.
