Early Onslaught Leads Tigers to Fourth Straight Win
Springfield, OH - Wittenberg Women's Lacrosse earned an 11-4 home win over Spalding University on Wednesday, April 1, with an overpowering offensive surge in the first quarter to build a lead en route to their fourth straight win. The Tigers' current four-game winning streak is the program's longest in nine years, dating back to the first four games of the 2017 season.
Starting the scoring for the Tigers was Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange), as she found the net just two minutes into the game. After Spalding answered with a goal, Aubrey Stager (Saline, MI / Saline) put the Tigers back up one, and then Meek scored her second to double the lead. Stager then scored twice more and Meek scored her third of the game with 30 seconds remaining in the first as both players completed hat tricks before the game was even 15 minutes old.
Jarya Hassell (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook) proved to be a catalyst for the Tiger offense, assisting on the second and third of Meek's goals and scoring twice herself in quarter two to give Wittenberg a 8-2 lead heading into halftime. Stager scored the lone goal in the thrid quarter for her fourth of the game. Meek added another to begin the fourth. Hannah Richardson (North Farmington, MI / Farmington Hills) found the back of the net to get the Tigers to 11 before the Eagles scored twice more before the game ended to get the score a little closer at 11-4.
The Tiger defense was solid as well, allowing only 14 shots on goal. Makenna Ricketts (Chardon, OH / Chardon) earned the win in goal while only having to make three saves against five shots.
