Tigers Struggle to Fight Back Against John Carroll
Springfield, OH - Wittenberg Women's Lacrosse fell behind early and couldn't claw back against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opponent John Carroll in a 18-3 loss on a rainy afternoon at Edwards-Maurer Field.
The Blue Streaks lit up the scoreboard first, scoring the first three goals of the game before Wittenberg's Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) cut the deficit to two after scoring on a free position attempt. Aubrey Stager (Saline, MI / Saline) cut the lead to one after finding the back of the net off an assist from Maren Raymond (Louisville, KY / Ballard), making the score 3-2 in favor of John Carroll. Over the final five minutes of the first quarter, however, the Blue Streaks added another three goals to the tally.
Going into the second quarter already down four, the Tigers surrendered 12 unanswered goals until there were six minutes remaining in the game with the Blue Streaks leading, 18-2. The Tigers were able to add another goal at the end of the game, as Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) firing the ball past the John Caroll goalie unassisted with only two seconds remaining to make the final score 18-3.
The loss is the fifth straight loss for the Tigers, all coming in conference play. Their record for the season is now 4-11 (0-5 NCAC), while John Carroll improves to 8-5 (3-2 NCAC) as the season begins to wind down.
