Women's Lacrosse Ends Season With Senior Celebration
SPRINGFIELD, OH - The Tigers of Wittenberg Women's Lacrosse hosted the Kenyon Owls at Edwards-Maurer Field for the Senior Recognition Day game to close out the regular season. The team honored their seven seniors, Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange), Mackenzie Kelley (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area), Alyssa Burnside (Hilliard, OH / Bradley), VJ Shaw (St. Louis, MO / Crossroads College Prep School), Jarya Hassell (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook), Maren Raymond (Louisville, KY / Ballard) and Haley Pitman (Liberty Township, OH / Ursuline Academy) prior to the game.
The Tigers were able to score and stay withing striking distance in the first half before Kenyon held the Tigers scoreless in the second half to ultimately run away with the win, 18-6.
Wittenberg got on the board first as two seniors connected with Hassell finding the back of the net with an assist from Burnside. Kenyon then scored two goals of their own, but another senior, Meek, for the Tigers, tied it up less than a minute later. The Owls then went on a run, scoring the next four goals before Aubrey Stager (Saline, MI / Saline) beat the keeper on a free position shot to add another goal to the Tiger's first quarter tally. Kenyon would score another four goals in a row to go up10-3, but Wittenberg wasn't going down without a fight with a flurry of three golas in a row to close out the half. Burnside scored the first goal to make the total four, then Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) and Raymond each scored to make the halftime score 10-6 in favor of the Owls. In the second half, Kenyon buckled down on defense and held the Tigers scoreless while scoring eight of their own to end the game on the bright side of an 18-6 win.
