GAMBIER, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's soccer lost its second straight North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game, 2-0 to Kenyon, to move into a perilous position to reach the season-ending conference tournament.
The Tigers, who saw their four-game win streak snapped against Denison on Thursday, are now 8-7-1 overall and 3-3 in the NCAC. Kenyon improved to 10-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference, one point ahead of the Tigers entering the final week of the regular season.
After a relatively competitive first half, Kenyon broke the game open over the final 45 minutes, putting a pair of goals in the back of the Tigers' net. The Ladies outshot Wittenberg by a whopping 16-2 count in the second half alone to finish with a 26-6 advantage in that category by game's end.
Junior goalkeeper Cassie Lythjohan (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) was credited with five saves, in addition to a team save as a Tiger defender cleared a ball of the line.
Senior Sheryl Chambers (Victorville, Calif./St. Joan of Arc) led the offense with three shots, including one on goal. Freshman Cassie Howell (Batavia, Ohio/Glen Este) and senior Allie Keefer (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) both put their lone shot in the game on frame.
The road gets no easier for the Tigers over the final week, starting with a road trip to perennial regional powerhouse DePauw on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The regular season concludes with a home date against Wooster next Saturday.
