Women’s Soccer Announces Recruits In Class of 2017
Head Coach Matt Fannon will welcome eight recruits to the Wittenberg women's soccer program in August 2013.
Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University Women’s Soccer Head Coach Matt Fannon has announced that eight student-athletes will be joining the Tiger program in August 2013.
The new recruits join a team that compiled records of 11-5-3 overall and 7-0-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), good for the second regular season title in program history. The Tigers are expected to return 17 letterwinners from a squad that advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fifth time in program history.
Fannon is entering his first season at the helm of the program after serving as an assistant the last two years at the University of Wyoming. Wittenberg opens the 2013 season at the Johns Hopkins Invitational Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 in Baltimore, Md. The Tigers’ home opener is scheduled for Sept. 4 against Wilmington.
The new recruits are:
- Jenna Applegett (Westerville, Ohio/South) – Midfielder/Forward; Coaches Award in 2011; team captain in 2012; selected to play in the COSCA 2012 Senior All-Star Game; VFW Athlete of the Year; played club soccer for Blast FC.
- Michelle Brunswick (Madison, Ohio/Madison) – Defender/Midfielder; three-time first-team all-league selection; two-time first-team all-district; team MVP in 2012; played club soccer for Metro Coraggio.
- Kyrie Bumpus (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley) – Midfielder; second-team All-Ohio, first-team all-district and first-team All-Muskingum Valley League in 2012; played club soccer for Arsenal SC.
- Mackenzie Fisler (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) – Forward; Player of the Year in 2012; two-time first-team all-league selection; Team MVP; played club soccer for Cincinnati United.
- Kelsey Lorko (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview) – Goalkeeper; first-team All-Patriot Athletic Conference; team Defensive MVP; team captain; Honorable Mention All-Cleveland; played club soccer for Inferno.
- Ashley Lovett (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington Court House) – Forward; three-time first-team all-league selection; three-time first-team all-district selection; two-time second-team all-state selection; 12th on Ohio’s all-time scoring list with 125 career goals and 52 career assists.
- Taylor Oliver (Fountain Valley, Calif./Fountain Valley) – Defender; six-year team captain for her club Wolfpack SC, which has advanced to the State Cup “Sweet 16” and the California Cup Finals.
- Nicky Shouvlin (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) – Defender; team captain; second-team All-Ohio Heritage Conference; played club soccer for Metro FC (team captain three years).
“I am pleased to welcome this outstanding group of young women to the Wittenberg women’s soccer program,” Fannon said. “I look forward to working with them over the next four years and helping them succeed both academically and athletically.”
