Brym Represents Tigers At NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — At the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving National Championships, the Wittenberg Tigers were well represented by senior Adeline Brym (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington), who competed in three events over the three-day meet.
Brym swam in the 50 freestyle and 100 and 200 backstroke events after provisionally qualifying according to the NCAA standards during the regular season. Her performances stood up when the final cuts were made, earning her an invitation to the national meet, hosted by the University of Minnesota and North Coast Athletic Conference member the College of Wooster.
On Thursday, Brym finished 43rd in the 50 freestyle after posting a time of 24.74 in the preliminary session. On Friday, she turned in a time of 59.72 in the 100 backstroke to finish an impressive 27th in the race, then on Saturday earned another 27th-place finish in the 200-meter version of the backstroke on a time of 2:08.27.
Brym set the school record in the 200 backstroke preliminaries in 2009 at the NCAA championships with a time of 2:02.62 on her way to an eighth-place finish in the finals and All-American honors. That year, she became the first Tiger female swimmer to attend the national meet since Becca Searcy swam in the 500 and 1650 freestyle events in 2006.
Brym's strong performance on a national stage followed her key participation in the North Coast Athletic Conference meet, where she helped the Tigers' 200 free relay team to All-NCAC honors with a third-place finish that also broke a school record with a time of 1:37.64.
