Tigers Cap Dual Meet Season With Solid Finishes At Kenyon
In the final tune-up for the 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship meet next month, the Wittenberg men's and women's swimming and diving teams capped the dual meet season with a solid performance against nationally ranked Kenyon.
GAMBIER, Ohio — In the final tune-up for the 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship meet next month, the Wittenberg men's and women's swimming and diving teams capped the dual meet season with a solid performance against nationally ranked Kenyon.
The Tiger women were extremely competitive against Kenyon, which is a perennial national title contender. Wittenberg swimmers took four individual first-place finishes and a relay victory in the 200-yard medley relay, while junior Katie Reed (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) added wins in both diving events as the Tigers lost 135-95.
Sophomore Sarah Wilson (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe), sophomore Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./COnard), senior Keaton Hannon (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) and junior Ward McNulty (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier) teamed up for a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Gustafson added firsts in the 100-yard breaststroke and 50-yard breaststroke, while Hannon chipped in with a second in the 100-yard butterfly.
The other Tiger winners were junior Jane Tsivitse (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) in the 200-yard butterfly and sophomore Claire Kozlowski (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome)Claire Shannon (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) contributed a second in the 1650-yard freestyle and senior Rachel Lee (Hickory, NC/Hickory) rounded out the team's top finishers with a second in the 200-yard backstroke.
The Tiger men were defeated by a final score of 147-88. The lone individual winner was senior Gus Appenbrink (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
Also of note, freshman Ed Young (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle and freshman James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) added a third in the 200-yard breaststroke. Rounding things out, freshman AJ Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) took second in both the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke events.
