Tigers Open Spring Season With Big Win Over Johnson C. Smith
The Wittenberg Tigers opened the second half of the 2009-10 season with a convincing 8-1 victory over host Johnson C. Smith University.
CHARLOTTE, NC — The Wittenberg Tigers opened the second half of the 2009-10 season with a convincing 8-1 victory over host Johnson C. Smith University.
The win moved the Tigers to 3-3 on the season while kicking off a busy Spring Break week that includes four matches in Hilton Head, SC and two in Charlotte, NC.
The Tigers dominated at nearly every position, starting with a sweep of the three doubles courts. Wittenberg lost just five games in the three pro sets.
On the singles courts, junior Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and senior Emily Nash (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) led the way with 6-0, 6-0 victories at the second and third positions. Sophomore Alexandra Cummins (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) pulled out a three-setter at No. 4, followed by straight set wins by juniorRachel Bundy (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) at No. 5 and freshman Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) at No. 6.
