Tigers Drop Final Home Match To Ohio Dominican
The Wittenberg women's tennis team completed the home portion of their 2009-10 schedule Tuesday evening with a 7-2 loss to visiting NAIA program Ohio Dominican University, falling to 10-8 overall in the process.
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's tennis team completed the home portion of their 2009-10 schedule Tuesday evening with a 7-2 loss to visiting NAIA program Ohio Dominican University, falling to 10-8 overall in the process.
The Tigers picked up one point in the doubles session and one in the singles, starting with a nerve-wracking 9-8 win for junior Rachel Bundy (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and sophomore Anne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massilon Jackson) at No. 3 doubles.
In No. 2 singles, Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) was the winner after another dramatic matchup. Miely fell 3-6 in the first set but rallied for a 6-4 win in the second, going on to win the tiebreaker and the match by a 10-8 score.
The Tigers used the non-conference match as a final tune-up for the upcoming North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The competition, hosted by Denison University in Granville, Ohio, begins on Friday, April 30, and continues on Saturday, May 1.
