Wooster, Ohio – The Wittenberg University Women's Tennis picked its first win in conference action this season on Saturday with a convincing 7-2 victory over Wooster in an NCAC cross-divisional match played at the Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster. The win pushes the Tigers overall record to 7-3 on the season and was also the direct opposite scoreline of the matchup between the two squads last year in which the Scots came away with a 7-2 win over Wittenberg on March 29, 2018.
Who Stood Out
Wittenberg stormed out to an early 3-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles courts, highlighted by the senior duo of Alivia Livesay and Carli Milano grinding out an 8-7 (9-7) win in the second flight to close out doubles play. Junior Sarah Gallup and sophomore Harunya Ravindran were 8-4 winners in the top doubles flight, while sophomore Kathleen McGuff and freshman Sarah Wilke posted an 8-2 victory in the third flight.
While the Tigers did suffer losses in the first two singles flights, players in spots three through six came up with victories to clinch the 7-2 win for Wittenberg. Ravindran was the first Tiger to finish as she posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kendra Devereux in the fourth position, while Livesay grabbed the match-clinching fifth point with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Laura Haley in the third position. The final two singles matches were absolute battles as Wilke posted a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 come-from-behind win over Meklit Minassie in the fifth spot, followed by McGuff earning a 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 6-4 win over Emma Saxton in the sixth position.
The Tigers will now be off for five days, before heading up north next weekend for a pair of NCAC cross-divisional matches at Allegheny on Friday (4/5) and at Oberlin on Saturday (4/6).
