Tigers Finish Strong At Cedarville Invitational

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — The final day of March offered a mixed bag from Mother Nature, but the Wittenberg men's and women's track and field teams performed quite well at the Cedarville Invitational.

The Tiger men, in particular, enjoyed success on a cool, overcast, damp day, finishing third in a 12-team field. Wittenberg's women placed seventh out of 15 teams.

For the men, sophomore Victor Banjo (Sugarland, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) took his customary position atop the shortest sprint event. After finishing the indoor regular season unbeaten in the 55-meter sprint, Banjo is now 2-0 in the outdoor 100-meeter sprint.

Also taking first place was senior Justen Cox (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) in the pole vault. Freshman Charles Watson (Star, Idaho/Eagle) added a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, as did junior Justin Yates (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook) with a personal-best time of 49.50 in the 400 meters.

Banjo, Yates and Watson were joined by sophomore Chris Frierson (Cedar Hill, Texas/DeSoto) on the 4x100-meter relay to finish in second place as well. In the 4x400-meter relay, it was Frierson, senior Ryan Hagen (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), Watson and Yates touching the finish line in second place.

Sophomore Logan Jackson (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) placed third in the hammer, followed closely by junior Sven Isaacson (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) in fifth place. Isaacson also took fifth in the discus. Three runners also placed in the 800 meters, led by Hagen in fifth place.

On the women's side, the best individual finish was supplied by senior Anna Henry (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), who crossed the finish line in 18:24 to win the 5,000 meters. She was followed closely by sophomore Molly King (Springfield, Ohio/Northeastern) in fourth place.

Senior Catherine Kuerbitz (Cleveland, Ohio/Regina) added a third-place finish in the 400 meters.
