Wittenberg Women's Track & Field Team Earns National Academic Award
The Tigers posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 for the spring 2015 semester to earn an All-Academic Team award from the USTFCCCA.
Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University’s women’s track & field team has been recognized for excellence in the classroom with 2015 All-Academic Team honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The 31 student-athletes on the 2014-15 Wittenberg women’s track & field roster combined to post an outstanding grade point average of 3.20 for the spring 2015 semester. To be considered for the award, a team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.1 or better. A total of 170 NCAA Division III women’s track & field team earned All-Academic Team laurels in 2015.
“I am very proud of the work done in the classroom and on the track by our student-athletes again this year,” said Wittenberg Head Coach Craig Penney. “It takes great discipline to balance schoolwork and competition requirements, but it is among the most important goals of our program to give student-athletes the best possible opportunities both academically and athletically.”
Wittenberg placed fifth in the indoor and sixth in the outdoor championship meets sponsored by the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) during the 2014-15 season. Along the way, seven Tiger student-athletes earned a total of 12 All-NCAC awards in recognition of top-three finishes in the league championship meets, highlighted by NCAC Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year designations at both competitions for junior Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut).
