Led by Eaton's Heptathlon Win, Women’s Track & Field Performs Well at Weekend Events
WILMINGTON, OH/GRANVILLE, OH - Wittenberg Women's Track & Field competed in two events this weekend, turning in solid performances at both meets.
The highlight of the weekend came in the heptathlon as part of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Outdoor Combined Championships that took place on April 25-26 at Deeds Field on the campus of Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Cayla Eaton (North Lewisburg, OH / Triad) and Bethany Allen (Greenup, KY / Russell) took first and second place, respectively, reversing their 1-2 finish from the NCAC Indoor Combined Championships in late February. Eaton finished with 4,263 points turning in a times of 15.21 in the 100 hurdles and 27.20 in the 200 then getting1.57 meters in the high jump and 8.32 meters in the shot put. Allen finished with 3,807 points getting a 17.50 in the 100 hurdles, a 28.28 in the 200, then 1.48 meters in the high jump and 8.98 meters in the shot put.
On Saturday, April 25, the Tigers competed at the Wilmington Invitational and finished fifth as a team. Three Tigers picked up first place finishes. Rachel Lahrmer (Sagamore Hills, OH / Nordonia) was first in the 3000 meters in a time of 12:00.96 and Tyra Jackson (Lorain, OH / Lorain) was first in the 100 hurdles in a time of 15.48, while Story Laing (Granville, OH / Granville) was first in the pole vault at 3.60 meters.
Individual highlights included:
- 200 meters - Jenna Delp (Canton, OH / GlenOak) fourth place; followed by My'Ana Yancey (Canal Winchester, OH / Groveport-Madison) in fifth;
- 400 meters – Hallie Haines (Hillsboro, OH / Fairfield) fifth place;
- 3000 meters – Rachel Lahrmer (Sagamore Hills, OH / Nordonia) first place;
- 100 hurdles - Tyra Jackson (Lorain, OH / Lorain) first place;
- High Jump - Libby Weisenberger (Collins, OH / Western Reserve) third; Maddie Doerman (West Chester, OH / Lakota West) fifth;
- Pole Vault - Story Laing (Granville, OH / Granville) first; Rebekah Case (Mansfield, OH / Lucas) tie for fifth with Tiffany Hix (Prospect, OH / Elgin).
- Discus – Atalya Mason-Pentheny (Dayton, OH / Stivers), fifth;
