Women's Track and Field Takes Fifth at NCAC Outdoor Championships
Gambier, OH - The Wittenberg women's track and field team competed in day two of the NCAC Outdoor Championships at Kenyon College. After finishing day one in fourth place, the team fell to fifth place despite some excellent individual performances. John Carroll took first with 190 points while DePauw was second, totaling 156.5 points. Rounding out the top three was Ohio Wesleyan with 149.5. Wittenberg finished the championships with 102 points.
After a third-place finish in the long jump on Day 1, Kerrington Harper (Mason, OH / Mason) performed well in the triple jump, with a mark of 11.21 meters, good for second place. In the shot put, Lexi Coolbaugh (Shreve, OH / Triway) finished fourth with a toss of 11.46 meters to put herself into the top 10 in program history. Continuing the great performances in the field portion of events, Cayla Eaton (North Lewisburg, OH / Triad) took home the top spot in the high jump at a height of 1.59 meters and Bethany Allen (Greenup, KY / Russell) was sixth as she cleared 1.50 meters. Eaton had another good finish in the 100-meter hurdles as she took fifth in a time of 15.32 seconds to add another finish to the program top-10 list. Abbey Danne (Johnstown, OH / Big Walnut) then finished in second place in the 800-meter finals in a Wittenberg top-10 time of 2:13.59. The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Danne, Tymeerah De'Armond (Springfield, OH / Springfield), Hallie Haines (Hillsboro, OH / Fairfield) and My'Ana Yancey (Canal Winchester, OH / Groveport-Madison) went home in third place, as they crossed the finish line in 4:00.63.
Harper, the NCAC Indoor Newcomer of the Year and Field Events Athlete of the Year, was recognized with a special individual award again at the Outdoor Championships. After scoring points in three field events, including two all-conference performances, Harper picked up Outdoor Newcomer of the Year honors as well.
Next week, the Tigers will send a small number of athletes to Illinois to compete in the University of St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite in hopes that some of them improve on their times to qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.
