Shorthanded Tigers Drop 3-1 Decision At Cedarville
After winning opening set, re-shaped Wittenberg line-up struggles against NCAA Division II scholarship foe.
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Wittenberg Volleyball Head Coach Paco Labrador continued to tinker with the Tigers' line-up against neighboring NCAA Division II rival Cedarville, with the results in this case being a 3-1 loss.
Wittenberg, ranked 13th in NCAA Division III, dropped to 14-8 overall, heading into a home match against Baldwin Wallace at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Cedarville evened its record at 12-12.
The Tigers won the opening set 25-20 before dropping the last three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-20, 25-13. Wittenberg was playing without the services of its two leaders in kills as senior Andrea Behling (Columbus, Ind./North) and sophomore Kara Seidenstricker (London, Ohio/Jonathan Alder), in addition to sophomore Katie Zito (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson), who leads the squad in digs.
In their place, freshman Camila Quinones (Sunbury, Ohio/Worthington Christian) led the offense with 11 kills, while sophomores Melissa Emming (West Chester, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and Brooke Barney (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) added nine apiece. Freshman Courtney Huck (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa) led in assists with 17, followed by junior Meghan Vodopich (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) with 14.
Junior Kiah Murray (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) paced the Tiger defense with 17 digs, while freshman Emily Kahlig (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater) was strong at the net with five blocks.
