Springfield, Ohio – The No. 3 Wittenberg volleyball team dismantled the Ladies of Kenyon College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-18). As the Tigers took the match in a clean sweep moving to 19-2 on the season and 8-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference action. Wittenberg secured their 24th NCAC title and their 13th consecutive crown with their win over the Ladies of Kenyon College. The Tigers will get set to host the NCAC Tournament, welcoming in the conference's top seven teams. This Tiger senior class will head into their Senior Day match on Saturday facing the Cardinals of Otterbein University, having accumulated a total record 78-12 including 32-0 in conference battles.
Who Stood Out:
Haley Horner led the offensive charge with 10 kills on the night, logging a kill% of .444. Following close behind was Katie Hiestand with nine kills while adding seven digs and two blocks. Aubrey Cox would hit her mark, swinging .462 and providing three digs and two blocks. Sophia Eason tallied 22 assists and eight digs for the red and white.
The Tigers jumped out to a commanding 9-1 lead to start the first set. Wittenberg added to their advantage during the Karen Wildemann service rally, taking their lead up to 15-3. The Tigers kept the Ladies out of double-digits, extending their advantage out to 23-8, before finishing by tallying the final two points. The Ladies put up a fight early to start the second set, as Wittenberg maintained a four-point advantage at 11-7. The Tigers quickly doubled up the Ladies at 20-10, before cruising to the win and allowing just two points. The two sides battled back and forth get things going in the third set, as the scoreboard flashed a tie at 7-7, 9-9 and 12-12. Wittenberg would get things going in the third set with a three-point Taylor Brown service rally, which included an ace and a block from Aubrey Cox and Hiestand, taking the Tiger advantage up to 16-12. The Tigers would push their lead out to 20-15 with two kills from Paige Kucinic. Wittenberg fended off one final attack from the Kenyon front, maintaining the lead to match point at 25-18.
