Wittenberg Women's Volleyball Adds Six for 2021 Fall Season
Wittenberg University Volleyball Head Coach Evelyn Carus-Miller announces the addition of six high school athletes that have committed to play for the Wittenberg University volleyball team this upcoming fall. These talented and gritty student-athletes will be a part of Wittenberg's Class of 2025 and will begin their career as Wittenberg Tigers in the Fall of 2021.
The newest additions to the volleyball team include: Emma Reeder, Ava Hampton, Camryn Colahan, Kendall Robertson, Kendall Black and Katie Troyer. Coach Carus-Miller says, "This is a special group of young women. They are all incredibly gritty athletes who show consistency, in their game, across the board. We are very excited to finally get them on campus in the Fall and show them what Wittenberg Volleyball is all about. Each and every one of them are outstanding additions to our 2021 roster!”
Reeder is a 5’8” libero from Lewis Center, Ohio. In her time at Olentangy Orange High School, Reeder graduated with an honors diploma, was rewarded with Cum Laude, and was a member of National Honors Society. In her volleyball career, Reeder led her club volleyball team to many important victories and placed third at 18’s Junior Nationals. “Emma is a relentless defender and is reliable on the volleyball court. We are so excited to experience that and her positive attitude in the fall”, Coach Carus-Miller says. Reeder will debut in jersey #12 this Fall.
Hampton is a 5’1” libero from Westerville, Ohio. In her time at Westerville Central High School, Hampton graduated with a medallion of excellence. In her volleyball career, she was on the 2019 Honorable Mention team, and became the Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year in 2020, including All-District First Team and All-Conference First Team honors. “Ava is a very scrappy libero who brings a calm, cool, and collected personality to the court. Her serve receive is very consistent, which our coaching staff loves. We are ready to have Ava in our gym”, Coach Carus-Miller says. Hampton will debut in jersey #25 this Fall.
Colahan is a 5’7” outside hitter and defensive specialist from Vermilion, Ohio. In her time at Vermilion High School, Colohan graduated with a Diploma of Service (50+ community service hours) and was a three-sport athlete that competed in volleyball, basketball and track. In her volleyball career, Colahan was a team captain her junior and senior year, District 6 Third Team in 2018 and 2020, and was a varsity letterman all four year of high school. “Camryn is a resilient, gritty and talented young woman. We are proud to add all of these incredible freshmen to our roster, but especially Camryn. She has shown the world what she is capable of (beating cancer), and we are eager to witness all the great things she will do in our program.” Colahan will debut in jersey #5 this Fall.
Robertson is a 6’2” middle from Lake Orion, Michigan. In her time at Lake Orion High School, Robertson graduated with Cum Laude academic honors and was a Lamp of Learning Recipient throughout all four years of high school. She additionally earned the Scholar Athlete Award every single season. Robertson was a part of Students Offering Support, which was a mental health awareness club at Lake Orion High School. In her volleyball career, Robertson was an integral part of the very first volleyball state championship team in the 2018-2019 season. The following year, her team returned to the Final Four. Robertson received All-State Honorable Mention and was a member of the All-Region team. Rounding out her resume, Robertson was a two-year team captain and a four-year varsity letterman. “Kendall was an essential last-minute addition to our 2021 class. She is a fierce competitor and is very physical at the net. We are looking forward to seeing her presence in our gym!” Coach Carus-Miller says. Robertson will debut in jersey #19 this Fall.
Black is a 6’1” middle from Defiance, Ohio. In her time at Defiance High School, Black graduated with an honors diploma as Valedictorian of her class. She had career all A’s and was a member of National Honors Society. In her volleyball career, Black was a part of the 2019 All-WBL Honorable Mention Team, 2020 All-WBL First Team, and 2020 All-District 8 First Team. In her senior year, she was selected to be an “All-Star” and played in the senior All-Star game. Black was also selected for the Ohio All-Star Volleyball game, and was team captain in 2019 and 2020. “We are excited to add another highly intelligent middle to our roster in the fall. Kendall’s volleyball IQ, skills and knowledge of the game are impressive. We can’t wait to elevate these aspects of her game and see what Kendall is capable of in our program!” Coach Carus-Miller says. Black will debut in jersey #21 this Fall.
Troyer is a 5’8” setter from Orrville, Ohio. In her time at Orrville High School, Troyer graduated with an honors diploma as Salutatorian of her class, was the president of Orrville High School’s National Honors Society, appeared on the Honor Roll for four consecutive years, and was the DAR Good Citizen Recipient. In her volleyball career, Troyer was a team captain and received District Honorable Mention awards (two consecutive years). She also received the Scholar Athlete Award and was in the Top 3 in her district for Service Points/Aces. “Katie is a fiery leader with contagious energy. She is very athletic and consistent, which will add so much value to our team in the fall!” Coach Carus-Miller says. Troyer will debut in jersey #15 this Fall.
The Tigers are hungry coming off of a 5-2 spring season record, and currently preparing for the Fall. The Tigers are looking to earn their 25th NCAC conference championship to propel them to the 29th straight NCAA tournament appearance. Head Coach Carus-Miller is entering her fifth season at the helm of the Wittenberg volleyball program, along with Hadley Sterett, entering her third season as the program's assistant coach. The Tigers Volleyball team is set to start the 2021 Campaign on September 1st, opening at home versus the Otterbein University Cardinals.
