SPRINGFIELD — The Wittenberg women's volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT, for the 2023-24 academic year.
Celebrating 32 years of academic excellence in volleyball, the AVCA Team Academic Award honors varsity volleyball teams at the high school and collegiate levels that are successful in the classroom. To be recognized with this honor, teams must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale during the entire 2023-24 academic year.
Wittenberg is one of seven North Coast Athletic Conference and 231 NCAA Division III programs to earn the honor for 2024.
This year marks the 20th time that the Wittenberg women's volleyball program has earned this distinction since its inception in the 1992-93 academic year, joining 15 other NCAA Division III teams to be recognized 20-plus times in the history of the award. Central (Iowa) leads all Division III programs with 25 such recognitions. Wittenberg earned the honor eight straight years from 2004 to 2011 and six straight times from 2017 to 2022.
Under head coach Evelyn Miller, Wittenberg finished 16-14 overall and 5-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference in 2023, capping the season with an NCAC Tournament championship and NCAA Division III Tournament berth. The Tigers open their 2024 season on Aug. 30 hosting Otterbein as part of the Wittenberg Fall Classic.
