Women’s Volleyball Opens NCAC Play with Win Over Denison
GRANVILLE, OH – Always a tough opponent, Wittenberg women's volleyball opened North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play on the road against defending conference champion Denison at Livingston Gymnasium on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Coming into the match with confidence, the Tigers defeated the Big Red in three sets, 25-17, 25-20, and 25-17. After taking a 3-2 lead in the first set and trading points to 6-5, Wittenberg held on to the lead through a 19-12 run and went on from there to claim the win. The Tigers were threatened very little in the next two sets, leading from start to finish for an important early-season victory over the Big Red. Witt turned in a hitting percentage of .310 to just .134 for Denison.
Denison, which defeated Wittenberg last season in the NCAC Tournament semifinals, was selected to repeat as conference champion once again this season, while Wittenberg was picked to finish fourth.
With the 'W', Wittenberg improves to 7-6 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC while Denison drops to 8-8 overall and 0-1 NCAC.
Alana Bartulovic (Cleveland, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) led the team with 12 kills and 13.5 points. Kait Colahan (Vermilion, OH / Vermilion) added nine kills, five block assists and 11.5 points, while Clare O'Malley (Avon, OH / St. Joseph's Academy) tallied seven kills for 11 points and added three solo blocks. Mary Sulfridge (South Charleston, OH / Southeastern) led the team in assists with 33, and Ally White (Harrison, OH / Harrison) turned in a team-high 16 digs.

- Piper Ricketts (Morrow, OH / Little Miami) and Kaili Worcester (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty)each had two service aces for the Tigers.
- Madelyn Luers (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) had six block assists in the big win.
