Tigers Notch Third NCAC Victory, Defeating Oberlin, 3-0
OBERLIN, OH – Wittenberg's Women's Volleyball notched its third North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory in as many tries in the 2025 season, this time downing host Oberlin in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 25-17, on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Phillips Gymnasium.
Against the Yeoman, the Tigers captured their 46th win in a row in the series that dates to 1979. Wittenberg is now 50-3 against Oberlin. With the win, Wittenberg improves to 11-7 overall in 2025 and sits atop the NCAC along with newcomer John Carroll, both at 3-0. Oberlin falls to 1-12 overall and 0-3 in the NCAC.
Despite being tested in set one, the Tigers outhit the Yeomen, .448 to .161. There were seven ties before Witt took control at 17-17 behind key offensive plays by Piper Ricketts (Morrow, OH / Little Miami) and Madelyn Luers (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) to go on an 8-3 run and secure the win. The Tigers never trailed in set two but struggled in the beginning of the third. After a 7-7 tie, Witt got the upper hand and never looked back.
Team Leaders
- Clare O'Malley (Avon, OH / St. Joseph's Academy) and Luers led the team in kills with 10 each, accounting for 12 and 12.5 points, respectively. Kait Colahan (Vermilion, OH / Vermilion) added nine kills and turned in 11 points.
- Kaili Worcester (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty) led the team in service aces with three, while Piper Ricketts (Morrow, OH / Little Miami) tallied two. Worcester and Ricketts also picked up seven digs while Ally White (Harrison, OH / Harrison) turned in a team-high nine.
- Mary Sulfridge (South Charleston, OH / Southeastern) led the team in assists with 29.
- Colahan, O'Malley, Sulfridge, and Luers registered two solo blocks apiece.
Team Comparison
- Team totals for Wittenberg included 41 kills on 88 total attacks for a .341 hitting percentage. The Tigers also had 35 assists, seven service aces, nine total blocks, and 39 digs.
- Oberlin registered 26 kills on 91 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .088. The Yeomen also added 26 assists, nine service aces, three blocks, and 35 digs.
