Tigers Win Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic 55-49 Over Millikin
Jaelin Williams was named tournament MVP for the second straight season
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg men's basketball concluded the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic with a win in the championship game for the second consecutive season on Friday night. The Tigers dropped Washington St. Louis a year ago to win the title, and on Friday, the Tigers came out on top against the Big Blue of Millikin after beating Geneva on Thursday night. Wittenberg won a low scoring affair 55-49 as the Tigers defense was on display all tournament long. Jaelin Williams earned tournament MVP honors for the second straight season, as guard Cody Phillippi was also named to the all-tournament team.
GAME NOTES
- Williams paced the Tigers with 19 points, as the tournament MVP logged 31 minutes for the Tigers, hauling in five rebounds while recording three steals.
- The Tigers trailed at halftime, but came out on a mission in the second half, outscoring the Big Blue in the frame 31-24.
- Despite getting outrebounded 37-28, Wittenberg managed to force Millikin into 23 turnovers, and cash in on 26 points off those miscues.
- Wittenberg trailed by as many as nine points in the first half, but managed to jump out to a ten-point lead early in the second half thanks to 20 bench points.
- Williams was the only Tiger in double-digit scoring, but 11 different Tigers found the scoring column in the tournament championship.
