Gordon
WINTER HAVEN, FL – Wittenberg Softball played two more games on day three of The Spring Games at DiamondPlex in Winter Haven, Florida, on Tuesday, March 10. The Tigers went 1-1, picking up a 12-3 win in five innings against Gordon in game one, before dropping the second to Kean, 10-2, in six innings.
The Tiger offense came out of the gate strong, scoring six runs in each of the first and second innings to go up 12-0. Gordon finally broke through Witt's pitching staff, scoring one in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Despite the high output of scoring for the Tigers, the Fighting Scots outhit Wittenberg 7 to 5. Gordon committed five errors in the game that led to eight unearned runs.
Shyann Beddow (Kearns, UT / Kearns) had a good day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. She also scored a run. Olivia Cunningham (Parker, CO / Ponderosa), Kirsten Wright (Springfield, OH / Kenton Ridge), and Kennedy Reed (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) had the other RBI for the Tigers. Meghan McCans (Arcanum, OH / Arcanum), Beddow, Wright, and Bekah Giel (Westville, IL / Bismarck-Henning) each scored two runs in the big win. Cunningham and Wright also had a double, while Giel collected three stolen bases to lead the team.
Julie Hall (Powell, OH / Bishop Watterson) and Kaydee Roberts (North Lewisburg, OH / Triad) took care of business on the mound, with Hall going 2.1 innings and striking out two. Roberts went 2.2 innings and picked up the win.
In game two, the Tigers were the first to score, getting a run in the third. However, Kean answered in the bottom of the inning, putting a five-spot on the board to go ahead 5-1. They scored another in the fourth and fifth innings, then three more in the sixth to secure the 10-2 victory. Wittenberg pushed across one more in the top of the sixth. The Cougars had 15 hits in the game to just three for Wittenberg.
McCans, Gada Bryant (Westville, IL / Bismarck-Henning), and Reed each had a hit. Bryant had the Tigers' only RBI. Reed and Kortnie Ganshorn (Galion, OH / Galion) each scored a run. McCans had two stolen bases in the game. Phoebe Underwood (Seymour, IN / Seymour) took the loss on the mound after pitching in 2.1 innings.
With the split, the Tigers go to 4-2 on the season. Gordon is 2-6, and Kean is 4-4. It was the first time Wittenberg had ever faced either team.
