Wittenberg’s Women’s Basketball Falls to Wooster on the Road
WOOSTER, OH – After putting together a solid first half, Wittenberg Women's Basketball went cold in the final two frames and dropped a 71-65 decision to host Wooster in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup on Saturday, Jan. 3, at Timken Gymnasium.
The win was the fourth in a row for Wooster, and it ended a 17-game winning streak for the Tigers in the series between the two teams. Wooster last defeated Wittenberg on Feb. 18, 2017.
After ending the first quarter in a 20-20 tie, the Tigers took control in the second, holding Wooster to just 10 points and taking a commanding 37-30 lead at the intermission. Witt would increase its lead to 10 at the 1:56 mark of the second at 37-27 before the Fighting Scots chopped into the deficit.
Behind pressure defense that included a full-court press, the Fighting Scots turned in a stellar third quarter, going 7-for-8 from the field, 3-for-3 from three-point land, and 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Their excellent shooting allowed them to take a 40-39 lead at the 6:47 mark of the third and end the quarter ahead 55-52. Wooster led by five three more times in the fourth before Witt tied things at 63-all with 5:12 remaining. But the Fighting Scots outscored the Tigers, 8-2, in the final minutes to hang on for the win. There were seven lead changes and six ties in the game.
Each team is now 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC.

- Molly Mossing (Cedarville, OH / Cedarville) led the team in points and in rebounds with 20 and eight, respectively.
- Karley Moore (Tipp City, OH / Bethel) had 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.
- Madi Barnett (Cincinnati, OH / Kings) led the team in assists with seven.

- The Tigers were 28-for-68 for 41.2 percent from the field and just 4-for-21 from three-point range for 19 percent.
- Wooster, which landed three players in double digits, was 23-for-54 from the field for 42.6 percent for the game.
- Witt had 34 rebounds, 18 assists, 15 turnovers, three blocks, and five steals.
- Wooster registered 33 rebounds, 14 assists, 14 turnovers, two blocks, and seven steals.
