Tiger's Season Ends at the Hands of DePauw
Greencastle, IN- The Tigers of Wittenberg were the road team as they traveled to take on the Tigers of DePauw in the quarterfinals of the NCAC Tournament. After a hard-fought first quarter, DePauw pulled away, ultimately ending Wittenberg's season by defeating them, 68-31.
Wittenberg hung with DePauw, keeping things close in the first quarter as the score was 19-16 in favor of DePauw after the first 10 minutes of play, with seven of the points coming from Karsen Karlblom (Crystal Lake, IL / Prairie Ridge). In the second, the Indiana Tigers scored 18 points to only four that Wittenberg added to the scoreboard, making the halftime deficit 17 at 37-20. Unfortunately, the second half was more of the same as Wittenberg was outscored 31-11 over the final 20 minutes of play giving DePauw the win and allowing it to move on in the semifinals to face Denison on Thursday, Feb. 26.
Team Leaders
- Karlblom led the Tigers with nine points and Molly Mossing (Cedarville, OH / Cedarville) dropped in eight.
- Mossing and Karley Moore (Tipp City, OH / Bethel) each grabbed five boards and tied for the team lead in assists with Madi Barnett (Cincinnati, OH / Kings) at two.
- Moore played stellar defense leading the team in steals and blocks with three and two, respectively.
Team Comparison
- Wittenberg shot 11-52 (21.2%) from the field, 2-22 (9.1%) from three-point range and 7-8 (87.5%) from the stripe. They grabbed 29 rebounds, dished out eight assists, but turned the ball over 19 times. The Ohio Tigers logged only three points off turnovers and four second- chance points with 12 points in the paint and four total bench points.
- DePauw shot 24-55 (43.6%) overall, 8-21 (38.1%) from deep and went 12-16 (75%) from the free-throw line. They ate up the glass with 37 rebounds, logged 21 assists, and turned the ball over only 10 times. The Tigers of Indiana scored 19 points off turnovers, 16 off second chances, 14 in the paint, and their bench scored 21 points.
